After years as one of the many anchor retail stores at Sunland Park Mall, Old Navy has closed up shop.

Three Old Navy retail stores remain in town as the one at Sunland Park Mall now joins the roster of businesses that closed since the west side mall opened in the late 90s.

I recently went to the mall to hit up Hot Topic for a gift, and once there decided to stroll the mall and noticed how much the mall has changed.

The national retail shops such as Sears, Macy's, JC Penney, Chik-Fil-A, and Cinemark Bistro are long gone.

While the Old Navy space sits vacant today with its windows covered in butcher paper, many stores are still open and thriving.

Shoppers can still find Starr Western Wear, Victoria's Secret, Journey's, Aéropostale, Bath & Body Works, Conn's, The Greenery, and the last department store chain inside the mall, Dillard's.

As I made my way across the pink marble mall, I noticed a bunch of other storefronts that had opened since the last time I was there last year.

Shoppers can find Cofismo (coffee and smoothie bar), Studio One Hair Salon, a lash bar, a custom t-shirt shop, and just last year, the mall teamed up with the Wolf Pack Volleyball Club to introduce a new indoor volleyball facility.

New stores planning to open soon also include Sun City Kitty, Warman's Strength & Rehab, D Kong's Tattoo & Piercings, I Heart Sugar, NYPD Pizza, Monkey Rock, and many more.

The mall's community partnership initiative also provides various health and wellness options, including several fitness centers, such as TruFit Athletic Club, Academy of Aerial Fitness, Screaming Eagles Martial Arts, and TKFitBoot Camp.

Sunland Park Mall is also working to lure and appeal to customers by combining a multi-dimensional shopping experience and engaging in various activities year-round with events such as their Backyard Cinema aimed at families with kids.

So, while Old Navy may be gone and we don't know yet what new business will move in, many other unique and local stores will soon open their doors for El Pasoans to discover and shop.
