Buc-ee’s Is Not Happy About the Knock-Off That’s Opening in Mexico
Okay, now I am mad. Mexico gets a Buc-ee's but El Paso can't get one?!
Okay, so maybe it's not the real Buc-ee's, but still! Over in Matamoros Tamaulipas, just across the Border from Los Indios, Texas, an "off-brand" Buc-ee's plans to open up for the community, and well, let's just say that the real Buc-ee's is none too pleased with it.
Ramon Montelongo shared a photo of the unauthorized Buc-ee's to his followers, and the people are excited. Of course, because it's not a real Buc-ee's, it has a different spelling.
Tell me why I read that in my grandpa's accent? El BUK-II'S Super Mercado (super market) plans to open despite Buc-ee's being on alert about it's unauthorized use. In a statement to the San Antonio Express, the company said:
Buc-ee's has invested heavily in innovation across the company to create and maintain …. award-winning guest experiences. Accordingly, Buc-ee's will not stand as an idle spectator while others use without permission the intellectual property that Buc-ee's has cultivated for decades.
I totally get it, Buc-ee's worked hard to give us all the Buc-ee's we know and love; but they kind of sound like they're being a wet blanket about this! It's a small store, which Montelongo says will likely sell what you'll usually see in a standard puesto in Mexico; fruits, vegetables, beverages, candies, etc.
I know that Buc-ee's is only working to keep their reputation, we don't know how well managed this BUK-II'S will be, but what real harm can come of it? But then again, these are the same people that wanted to tear down the smallest Buc-ee's in the world! Or maybe I'm just being a bit salty because we don't have one in El Paso!
