The Mystery Behind New Mexico’s Wildfires: Are Two People to Blame?
The community of Ruidoso, New Mexico is trying to put things back to normal after last month's devastating wildfires swept through southern New Mexico, burning over 12 square miles of land near the scenic village of Ruidoso.
Now, the FBI has announced that this blaze, along with a string of other fires in the area, may have been human-caused.
Could two individuals be responsible for the chaos?
Like something out of a movie, Federal authorities have pointed fingers at a mysterious duo linked to a vehicle seen fleeing the scene of at least five other wildfires in the region over six weeks.
The suspects, a man and a woman, are at the center of an investigation, but their names have not yet been released since they have not yet been charged with any crime.
Wildfires Cause Damage and Deaths In New Mexico
From May 3 to June 18, the Mescalero Apache Reservation experienced a surprising 16 wildfires. Most of these are believed to be caused by human activity, raising suspicions of foul play.
Adding to the tragedy are the Salt and South Fork fires, both ignited on June 17. These destructive forces of nature charred over 25,000 acres and took weeks for firefighters to contain.
Tragically, two people lost their lives, and over 1,400 structures were reduced to ashes in the South Fork Fire.
The mystery of who these people are and what motivated them to cause such destruction is a puzzle that only the FBI can solve! One thing's for sure—New Mexico is on high alert but the community will come back stronger from this!
