The 2015 season of “Movies in the Canyon” kicks off this weekend at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre with Big Hero 6 and Maleficent.

Beginning the Friday and Saturday nights, and for the next eight weekends through Oct. 3, a family friendly, relatively current movie will be shown on a giant state-of-the-art movie screen set up on the stage of the amphitheater starting at approximately 8:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. in the fall).

Outdoor movie-loving El Pasoans know there are more than a few options and opportunities to watch a movie under the open sky this time of the year, mostly in a city park, but none of them compare to the vibe and scenic beauty of the canyon. Watching a movie under the stars at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre is truly spectacular. And they’re all FREE to see!

Unlike other outdoor movie screenings around town though, you will not be allowed to bring your own food or drinks. Popcorn, soft drinks and other snacks will be available at the concession stand for a few bucks. Oh, and you may want to take a blanket or a light jacket just in case -- it can get a little chilly in the canyon sometimes.
