Teenager Plants Bomb outside Police Station, Then Tries To Collect Reward Money:19-year-old Sergio Chaves of Chicago came up with what has got to be one of the dumbest money making schemes ever.

Sergio built a bomb out of fireworks, nails, glass shards, and a bullet, then planted it in a garbage can outside a police station in Evanston, Illinois. Afterwards, he called the station and told them he’d seen a bomb in their garbage can. The station was evacuated and the bomb squad did it’s thing, defusing the bomb.

Sergio – feeling the time was right - showed up at the police station looking for a cash reward for reporting the bomb. Under questioning, though, his story about it being planted by a drug dealer started falling apart. Eventually Sergio admitted that HE planted the bomb to try to get some cash and was promptly arrested and charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device; a felony which could get him up to 10 years in the clink.
