Makeup Giant Sephora Launching Subscription Box Service
Companies like IPSY and Birch Box have become extremely popular with millennial set. The ability to try multiple sample products to decide what works for you -- for a small fee -- is something that seems to be appreciated by this generation. Now, Women's Wear Daily is reporting that Sephora will be launching their own subscription service to compete with these companies. Play! by Sephora will be the same price as IPSY and Birch Box, only $10 a month. Inside these boxes will be various samples and a few extra treats like Spotify playlists. Spear will begin testing in only Boston, Columbus and Cincinnati next month, and then plan on expanded to other cities next year.
Want to know what will come in the first box?
The first box will include products from Marc Jacobs, Ole Henriksen, Bumble and Bumble, Glamglow and Sephora's in-house brand, according to Harper's Bazaar. Sephora will change up every month's box by giving them a theme, like cosmetics, skincare or hair products. On top of that, each box will get extra samples thrown in there as well. If you are a subscriber to Play!, you can also bring in any of the samples to Sephora to get help with how to use them.
This is a great idea for the company and I'm interested to see how they are going to decide which products they send to their customers. The whole reason I haven't used Birch Box or IPSY is how many of their products I see my friends throw away because they didn't like them. I usually order my makeup online, and on the Sephora website, you can pick out which products you would like to try for free. I will most likely purchase Play! by Sephora because of the quality of their products and knowledge of my buying traits.
