Legendary East El Paso Restaurant Is Getting Torn Down

An iconic, legendary El Paso restaurant that has been around for almost 75 years has not only closed but is on its way to being gone for good. Elmer's Restaurant has been reduced to a pile of bricks and will soon be an empty space on Montana. I used to go to eat there with my Seti and Jedi all the time to eat. They had amazing fried chicken and a really great diner breakfast but now it will all just be a memory.

It was almost two years ago that the owner's of Elmer's Restaurant defaulted on their lease. The owners of the property on Montana where Elmer's has been a fixture for so many years changed the locks and put up signs saying that going into the restaurant would be considered trespassing. A sign taped to the glass entry door said that new keys would be handed over once the restaurant paid its outstanding rent.

Unfortunately that outstanding rent would never be paid and the restaurant would remain closed and a couple of weeks ago, demolition began on the building that housed that amazing place. So many memories, so many families, so many meals shared with loved ones.

A few years ago I took a few photos at Elmer's when I was there for an Easter weekend breakfast. I had no idea that it would be one of the last times I would eat there. I will remember Elmer's and all the lovely times my family spent together there. It's a true loss to the El Paso scene.
