The star of The Mummy movie franchise, and Leonard from The Big Bang Theory will be in Las Cruces this week for the 2017 Las Cruces International Film Festival.

Actor Johnny Galecki, who stars as Dr. Leonard Hofstadter on the highly rated CBS comedy, will be among the award recipients.

Galecki is scheduled to receive the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy Award Saturday evening (March 11). He will also take part in a free comedy workshop scheduled for 2:30 that afternoon at the Rio Grande Theatre. The workshop is open to the public.

The festival is also honoring actor Brendan Fraser.

Fraser, who is best known for his role as Rick O'Connell in The Mummy trilogy, is this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Entertainment award.

In addition to his appearance at the awards reception Thursday evening, March 9, Fraser will give a lecture where he'll talk about his career as an actor at 2 p.m. in the Corbett Center Auditorium at NMSU. The event is free and open to the public.

The film fest will run from Wednesday, March 8 through Sunday, March 12, and will feature movie screenings, film competitions and other special events throughout the Las Cruces and Mesilla Valley area.

The VIP Opening Night Film Reception will include an appearance from actor Jon Heder, best known for his role as Napoleon Dynamite, and Will Ferrell's co-star in Blades of Glory.
