This Texas Artist Had One of the Best Videos According to MTV
Yes the glory days of MTV has seen many amazing artists, including some from Texas. Back when the network made its debut in 1981, we've seen some of the biggest names in Texas music get featured on its programming. Pantera, Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, Toadies, and of course ZZ Top. One of the aforementioned artists was even included in MTV's Top 100 music videos of all time. And that artist is none other than the legendary ZZ Top.
Which ZZ Top video was included in MTV's Top 100 List
While ZZ Top may not have been one of the first videos played on MTV, they DID have a huge video hit in 1983. When MTV complied their Top 100 Music Videos list in 1999, they included a song off of ZZ Top's Eliminator album. Was it "Sharp Dressed Man" or "Legs", the video with the iconic spinning guitars?
Neither.
It was the first single off the record, "Gimme All Your Lovin'" It would end up being #43 on MTV's list. I'll admit...the iconic red Ford Coupe & the beautiful ladies...yeah I can see why this one made the list.
Even though the video reached #43, keep in mind: this video still beat the likes of Guns N' Roses' "November Rain" which reached #45, Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun" which reached #48, Metallica's "Enter Sandman" which was #56 & Green Day's "Basket Case" which JUST cracked the top 100 at #100.. That's definitely some good company to be around. So thank you MTV for showing the world what we already knew, and that was the little band from Houston can ROCK.
The band would also have a huge amount of success at the very first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, which you can read all about here.
