Thankfully, we've seen some cooler temperatures recently in Texas. It's nice compared to the record tying or breaking heat we saw at times over the summer. Through the heat wave, there were several posts online and news headlines about weird things happening to vehicles.

Here are some of the weird ways that the heat wave in Texas affected our vehicles.

Batteries

Something that I didn't realize, and I probably should have, is that the fluid inside your battery can evaporate. Extreme heat can make evaporate faster than usual. The heat can even make it harder for them to hold a charge.

Things I wish they had taught me in high school.

Tires

I always assumed that heat was bad on tires, but I couldn't explain the science behind why. I just know that really hot usually equals really bad, unless we're talking about ramen noodles.

I did some digging and it turns out that when roads are extremely hot, it can do a real number on your tires; which makes a lot of sense. Again, I just always assumed this. Also, changes in temperature can play havoc on your tire pressure.

So, you have changes in temperature messing with the pressure and then you drive a somewhat underinflated tire on the extremely hot black top...and you're having to buy a new tire.

Car Just Won't Start

Here's one that caught me by surprise. Extreme heat can make it hard for your vehicle to start, and it all has to do with fuel.

As I found out, crazy hot weather can make it hard for your fuel to circulate. This is honestly something I never would have guessed.

The best way to combat this? Coolants.

Thank God that we've got some cooler weather ahead of us for a bit. Just make sure you're ready for the next big change in the weather.
