The El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce announced that small businesses owned by minorities can apply for grants ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 as part of its “Stay Safe Small Business Program.”

In total, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce plans to award a quarter of a million dollars to help local businesses affected by the pandemic remain operational.  The kicker is that these grants are going to be made available for businesses in places such as Anthony, Canutillo, Fabens, etc. that are still local but not located within official El Paso city limits.

Personally, I think businesses in these particular areas oftentimes get overlooked and it might be a good thing that they have access to these grants and not have to compete for them with the numerous businesses in El Paso proper.  Those communities are also in need of support and whatever additional resources might be available to them.

In addition to being located outside of the El Paso city limits, businesses must also meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for these grants:

  • Be minority owned
  • Have been in operation since at least January 1, 2019
  • Have less than 20 employees
  • Annual gross revenue must not exceed $1 million
  • Must be able to prove that business has been negatively affected by the pandemic via a profit or loss statement or bank statements
  • Deadline to apply is December 9, 2020

Businesses that wish to apply for these grants can do so by calling 915-566-4066 and asking for Abigail Tarango or Elvira Soto.  Once applications have been completed, they can then be emailed to Jessica Estrada at jestrada@ephcc.org
