Hernia mesh is probably one of those things you don't think about much unless you or a loved one needs it.

As the FDA explains on its website:

Most hernias are caused by a combination of pressure and an opening or weakness of muscle or connective tissue. The pressure pushes an organ or tissue through the opening or weak spot ... Anything that causes an increase in abdominal pressure can cause a hernia, including obesity, lifting heavy objects, diarrhea or constipation, or persistent coughing or sneezing.

Essentially, hernia mesh is an implant doctors sometimes use to support weak or damaged tissue in hopes of fixing a hernia and preventing future hernias, according to the FDA. Severe complications can include abdominal pain, infection and bowel obstruction. Patients may have to undergo surgery to remove the mesh.

When these complications happen, patients may be entitled to financial compensation. The Law Offices of Michael J. Gopin has more than 30 years of experience handling defective product cases — the most in the El Paso area. Their attorneys will fight for clients' rights, demand the compensation they deserve and make our community stronger by holding negligent parties accountable.
