Earlier this week, officials with the El Paso Health Department announced that there are a bunch of cochinos running around town infecting people with STIs. Sexually transmitted infections are going through the roof in El Paso, so you really need to get tested and educated about how to practice safer sex. The good thing is you have Planned Parenthood and a resource for education and testing.

Planned Parenthood offers reduced cost testing and treatment for STIs at their Health Center at 1511 E. Missouri Avenue.

If you think that you don't need to worry about the rise in STIs, check out these numbers that show the percentage of new cases of STIs according to the City of El Paso’s Department of Public Health:

Chlamydia has gone up by 30%
Gonorrhea has gone up by 37%
Syphilis has gone up by 460%

Yikes. Those are some pretty scary numbers.

Planned Parenthood offers STI testing and treatment for people who are insured as well as if you don't have insurance. If you don't have insurance you may qualify for a sliding fee scale based on your income. Call 1-800-230-PLAN to make an appointment, or you can access Planned Parenthood online at ppgreatertx.org/elpasohealthcare. Planned Parenthood accepts walk-ins and same day appointments.

Stay safe out there, El Paso, and remember to always practice safe sex and if you think you might have an STI or just want to get tested in a discreet way, contact El Paso Planned Parenthood. It's always better to know and get treatment than not know and get really ill.
