George Strait Raises Over $6 Million for Texas Flood Victims
Country legend George Strait has once again proven why he’s more than just a voice on the radio. He’s a force for good in Texas.
On Sunday, July 27, Strait hosted the “Strait to the Heart” benefit dinner and concert alongside longtime friend and Vaqueros del Mar partner Tom Cusick. The event raised a staggering $6.25 million for families devastated by catastrophic flooding in Hill County, Texas.
A Star-Studded Night with Heart
Held deep in the heart of Texas, the event wasn’t just about big names and big voices. It was about big love for a state in crisis. George Strait kicked off his set with “The Weight of the Badge,” a moving tribute to first responders. That spirit of service continued when Garth Brooks made a surprise appearance to join Strait on “The Fireman,” a nod to those who risk everything to keep communities safe.
More musical guests joined the King of Country throughout the night, including Jamey Johnson on “Give It Away,” and Dean Dillon and Bubba Strait (George Strait Jr.) on “There for a Good Time.”
Faith, Action, and a Whole Lot of Texas Pride
Texas Governor Greg Abbott and beloved author and pastor Max Lucado also made appearances, each praising the efforts of first responders and encouraging continued action and generosity.
“There’s a saying we’ve all repeated: pray as though everything is going to be taken care of by God, but act as though everything is up to you,” Abbott said to the crowd. “Texas first responders have rescued or evacuated more than 1,000 people. Lives were saved.”
The concert wasn’t just entertainment. It was a rallying cry and a deeply personal evening for a region hit hard by natural disaster. A highlight reel posted on George Strait’s official Instagram captured the emotion of the evening, along with a call for continued donations.
Fans and Fellow Texans Show Their Love
The response online has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans calling Strait “a national treasure” and “the best country artist out there ever.” One follower summed it up perfectly:
“This is why you are the king. You have a huge heart, full of love for others… God bless you!”
Even The Hat Bar, one of the event sponsors, chimed in:
“We were happy to be a part of it and to give back for such a good cause! It was a wonderful night.”
Strait didn’t need a stadium to make a difference this time. Just a stage, a cause, and that trademark Texas grit.
