The city of El Paso and the Environmental Services Department wants to remind you to recycle your live Christmas tree, not trash it.

Just take your tree to one of the five Citizen Collection Stations listed below from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday. Your tree will be turned into mulch which you can then take home to use in your garden or yard -- at no cost.

There are a couple of conditions: (1) All decorative items such as ornaments, lights, and tinsel must be removed, and (2) the tree has to be fresh.

If the needles are brown and dry, like the photo above, or if your tree was flocked it cannot be recycled. You can however still dispose of it there.

Oh, and if you want to take them up on the free mulch offer, whether you dropped off a live tree or not, take a trash bag or container with you. If after reading this you still have questions or need more information simply call 311.
