🎵 O' Christmas tree, O' Christmas tree. It's time to be recycled 🎵

For those that wait until after the feast of the Epiphany on January 6 to kick their live, cut Christmas tree to the curb, the City of El Paso Environmental Services Department wants to remind you that you don’t have to trash it, you can “treecycle” it for free at one of the five Citizen Collection Stations listed below.

Live Christmas trees, a.k.a. “real” Christmas trees, are being accepted through Wednesday, January 13. No I.D. or recent water bill is needed to recycle live Christmas trees.

Your tree will be given another life as mulch, which you can then take home to use in your garden or yard – also at no cost. There are a couple of conditions: (1) All decorative items such as ornaments, lights, and tinsel must be removed, and (2) the tree has to be “fresh.”

That means if the needles are brown and dry, or if your tree was flocked it cannot be recycled. You can however still dispose of it there.

Oh, and if you want to take them up on the free mulch offer, whether you dropped off a live tree or not, take a trash bag or container with you. If after reading this you still have questions or need more information simply call 311.
