Election Day Total Lunar Eclipse Will Be Visible In El Paso

There will be a total lunar eclipse on Election Day, and good news lovers of celestial shows, it will be visible from El Paso and Southern New Mexico.

The November 8 “Blood Moon” is not only going to be a 100% total eclipse that will turn a spectacular 100% reddish color, but it will also be visible for nearly an hour and a half.

What Is a Total Lunar Eclipse and Why Do They Call It a Blood Moon?

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the full moon enters the shadow of Earth and is totally obscured by our planet’s dark center giving it an eerie reddish hue, hence the “Blood Moon” moniker.

Tuesday's will be the first ever Election Day Blood Moon, the third total lunar eclipse in 18 months, the second in 2022, and the last one until March 2025.

Best Time to See Total Eclipse in El Paso

The eclipse will happen in the overnight hours on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and a clear sky and looking upward at the right time is all we’ll really need to see it.

It’s going to have a spectacular red look to it for a whopping 85 minutes, making it the longest total lunar eclipse since 2018. And it won’t be topped totality-wise until June 2029.

According to the website timeanddate.com, the total eclipse will be visible in our area beginning at 3:16 a.m., and ending at 4:41 a.m.

If all you want to do is see or photograph the moon when it’s in full-effect eclipse and reddish hue mode then 3:59 a.m. is when you need to look up, as that's when it will reach maximum eclipse totality.
