University Medical Center welcomed the first baby born in El Paso in 2017. That distinction belongs to Ailyne Gonzalez, born during the first hour of the new year.

The baby's mother, Nora Ramirez, told ABC7 little Ailyne was supposed to have been born December 30 but chose instead to be fashionably late, waiting until 12:50 a.m. on January 1 to make her debut.

According to the University Medical Center of El Paso Facebook page, Ailyne came into the world weighing 7 pounds 15.9 ounces. To celebrate her arrival, hospital staff awarded her parents a gift basket filled with swaddle blankets and other baby items.

Welcome to the word, Ailyne!
