El Paso's Sun Bowl Game Is Back - Here's What You Need To Know

I think we would all like to forget 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic really screwed up the year's events. The music world shut down concert schedules, Hollywood stopping filming movies and television series, everyone stayed home and buying up all the workout equipment they could find on Amazon and learning how to make sourdough starter and bake bread, and the sports world turned the lights off in all the stadiums and arenas all over the country.

For a while, it looked like we were going to get a Sun Bowl game at the end of the year. Teams were trying to do bubbles with their players and coaches but that didn't work and we didn't have our annual bowl game but this year, that is all changing. Officials with the 2021 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game announced Thursday afternoon that the 87th annual game is scheduled to kickoff on Friday, December 31 at 10:30 a.m.

Did you notice anything different in that announcement? Yes, it is going to kickoff earlier than the usual noontime start to the game. Bernie Olivas, longtime Sun Bowl director, said the game had to be moved up because there are other games being played that day.

It might not be too bad for the game to start earlier. It is on New Year's Eve day so it will give fans the chance to catch the game and then maybe take a nap at home before going out to celebrate the new year. The good news is that the game and El Paso will still be on tv in front of a national audience. It's good to see things like the Sun Bowl coming back. Hopefully by the time the game rolls around things will be even more normal than they are right now.
