After much consideration, El Paso Sun City Pride’s Board of Directors announced that Sun City Pride’s Parade and Events set for June have been canceled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As with so many other events, concerts, and festivals being canceled, Sun City Pride Fest now too has been canceled due to the coronavirus. Last week El Paso Sun City Pride’s Board of Directors announced that due to the stay-at-home order currently in place, all large scale events such as the Pride parade would not be possible stating that the health and safety of our community is first priority.

For over a decade now, El Paso Sun City Pride has brought thousands of people together to celebrate while raising thousands of dollars in academic scholarships to support our LGBTQ+ community.

El Paso Sun City Pride took to social media saying, “We are committed to continuing the legacy of our work as we anticipate the 14th Annual El Paso Sun City Pridefest Celebration in 2021.”

And just like many others who have taken to social media to help connect with others, Sun City Pride will be hosting virtual events until we can all gather in person once again.

While I myself was set to host this year’s Sun City Pride Fest, I look forward to seeing the day when we can all come together to not only celebrate our beloved LGBTQ+ community but to hug and rejoice humanity as a whole once the COVID 19 pandemic is over, sooner rather than later.
