El Paso Soldier Surprises Unsuspecting Girlfriend With Heartwarming Homecoming and Ball Game Proposal
An El Paso serviceman surprised his girlfriend at a Chihuahuas game with not only an earlier-than-expected homecoming, he immediately dropped to one knee for an even bigger surprise.
With the help of mom and dad and Andy Imfeld of the El Paso Chihuahuas, Juan Montes hit it out of the park, so to speak, and put a ring on it.
The Ruse
Imfeld distracted Montes’ girlfriend, Crystal, by involving her in one of the games he plays between innings to keep the crowd entertained. In this case, it was Finish That Lyric.
As the contestant, Crystal had to complete the lyrics of 3 popular songs.
As the Bruno Mars song “Marry You” begins to play, Baby Montes – as he’s affectionately known to family and friends – strolls in from behind, taps Crystal’s arm, and gets down on bended knee before popping open a little red box with the engagement ring inside.
The Proposal
So, did the future Mrs. Montes hoot and holler and fist pump like the team just won another Pacific Coast League Championship?
Shocked and in tears, a disbelieving “shut up” was all she could manage at first. “Is that a ‘yes’?” someone can be heard asking off-camera. “Yes. OH MY GOD!,” Crystal replies before standing up and going in for a long, tear-filled hug.
Thank you for your service and welcome home, Juan. And Mazel Tov, you two. Wishing you many more baseball games together.
