Eighteen year old Sarah Elizabeth Joyner never dreamt of becoming a “pageant girl,” however; since winning her title has learned there's more to the weight of a crown; is accomplishing goals never thought possible and dedicates her year of service to CNN Heroes charity Operation Freedom Paws. An animal lover at heart, Sarah grew up on her family’s ranch tending to family show horses and hopes to raise awareness of shelter pets and how loyal and healing they can be for people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A tom boy in her daily routine, Sarah is a junior majoring in Kinesiology with a concentration of Exercise Science at The University of Texas at El Paso with hopes to obtain a Bachelors Degree for Personal Training and one day go to medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon. But for now Sarah focuses on volunteering for military charities, making public appearances, promoting her Year of Service project El Paso Paws Pageant and in her spare time loves to watch the Miami Heat, plays basketball on post, sews and baby-sits.
Sarah and the rest of the Military Pageants family is asking for your help. Sarah needs dogs to sign up for her upcoming fundraiser the El Paso Paws Pageant! The event is less than 30 days away and she has not yet reached her goal of 40 dogs. We are trying to get the word out via Facebook.com/ElPasoPawsPageant. The event is open to any and all types of dogs and will take placeSunday, March 3, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Wyndham Hotel located at 2027 Airway, across from the El Paso International Airport. The cost is $20.00 to register.
This is a fun, creative and competitive way to get local dog lovers to show off their pets, while donating to a charitable military related cause.
