If you are looking to learn something new this year then check out these classes and workshops that the El Paso Museum of History is offering this spring.

The El Paso Museum of History will be offering classes ranging from dance, arts and crafts, languages, photography, music and much more.

Keep in mind that registration ends 2 days prior to the first day of classes and run for about 8 weeks from April – May on Thursday and Saturday evenings.

Classes

Digital Photography Fundamentals Class

  • 6-7 p.m. Cost: $62 for museum members/$77 for non-members.
  • Learn photography fundamentals: landscape, photojournalism, portrait, storytelling, events, slow shutter, macro, and food. Class is taught by Professional Photographer Heriberto Ibarra. Please bring camera and manual. Class is bilingual.

Intro to Photoshop Class

  • 7-8 p.m. Cost: $62 for museum members / $77 for non-members.
  • Learn the ins and outs of Photoshop with Heriberto Ibarra. Please bring laptop/tablet with Photoshop already installed.

Belly Dance Class

  • 7-8 p.m. Cost: $62 for museum members / $77 for non-members.
  • Learn the fundamentals of  belly dance workout taught by Sonia Flores and her daughter Seneé. Comfortable clothing recommended.

Advanced Conversational Spanish Class

  • 6-7 p.m. Cost: $62 for museum members / $77 for non-members.
  • This class is for speakers with some background in Spanish. Learn vocabulary and idiomatic expressions for different social settings, sports, the arts, and food!

Guitar Lessons

  • 7-8 p.m. Cost: $62 for museum members / $77 for non-members.
  • Class requires little or no experience playing guitar. Learn basic chords, strumming and picking techniques and how to play popular songs in English and Spanish.

American Sign Language Basics Class

  • 10-11a.m. Cost: $62 for museum members / $77 for non-members.
  • Learn the basics of American Sign Language as well as deaf culture. Hands-on practice, games and activities will help you to communicate using basic sentences with your hearing-impaired friends, family and colleagues. Students will learn approximately 15-20 signs each week in addition to ASL grammar and cultural differences.

Beginning Conversational Spanish Class

  • 12-1 p.m. Cost: $62 for museum members / $77 for non-members.
  • This course will acquaint students with everyday-spoken Spanish and Spanish-speaking cultures, as well as to provide them opportunities for language practicing and cultural awareness through movies, songs and readings from Spain and Latin American countries. Taught by Diego Murcia.

Workshops

Healthy from the Inside Out: Working with Essential Oils

  • Saturday, April 11, 10-11:30a.m.
  • Learn about developing a lifestyle of wellness utilizing essential oils. Projects include sugar and salt scrubs as well as a room freshener. Materials will be provided.
  • Fee: $20 for museum members/$25 for non-members, includes materials

Wire-Wrapping Basics: Creating Lamp Work

  • Swirl Earrings
  • Thursday, April 16, 6-7:30p.m.
  • Julia Cipriano from Of The Earth Beads & Jewelry will teach basic wire-wrapping techniques such as simple head pin wrap, earring wire production, layered wrapping and swirls to make lamp work swirl earrings.
  • Fee: $10 for museum members/ $20 for non- members
