The weekly syndicated program, which highlights “the joy, wonder, beauty, and excitement of Texas,” was in town in May for a promotional event at a Dairy Queen.

Before the meet and greet, host Shane McAuliffe hit up Lucy’s to find out first hand why El Pasoan’s can’t get enough of Lucy’s Famous Machaca Plate and the Tacos Antonia.

Lucy’s, which shares a building with the King’s X (another El Paso institution), has been a staple on the west side since the 1970s, and the shredded beef with tomatoes, onion, and egg smothered with their own chile con queso has been an El Paso favorite for about as long as the restaurant has been open.

Show host Shane McAuliffe was equally enamored with the Tacos Antonia, too -- another popular choice on the Lucy’s menu. Named after founder Lucy Lepe’s sister, the Tacos Antonia were signaled out as one of the “13 Great Tacos in El Paso” by Texas Monthly in 2015.

In an email correspondence, McAuliffe shared with me that he and TBL crew also checked out Hallelujah BBQ run by the Rescue Mission of El Paso and that his visit there will be in a future episode this upcoming season.

El Paso and the El Paso-area has been featured numerous times on The Texas Bucket List over the last few years. Chico’s Tacos, H&H Carwash, Rosa’s Cantina, and the super-haunted Monteleone’s Ristorante have all been showcased in past seasons, and locations including Hueco Tanks State Park, the oddity-filled Dave’s Pawn Shop downtown, and the now-shuttered Wyler Tramway have been too.

The Texas Bucket List airs Sundays at noon on Channel 4-KDBC.
