A week ago, pro Durangito activists clashed with police and stopped buildings in that neighborhood from being demolished by private property owners who want to sell their properties to the City so the downtown arena can be built.

At this week’s city council meeting, those same activists clashed with city reps over the arena. Things go so heated at one point, the meeting was closed down to clear the room.

Durangito activists booed and shouted down pro-arena speakers, and one of the protesters even went on a profanity-filled 3 minute rant.

I understand that the City acted foolishly when they removed the word ‘sports’ from the ballot language for the arena, but this fight is ridiculous. Durangito protestors say that there was no mention of sports when the project was being pitched to voters, but they are wrong.

Durangito protesters say they want the will of the people to prevail, but they are doing exactly what they are accusing the City of doing. They are trashing the will of voters who said yes to the arena. I wonder how many people who have protested and have signed the pro-Durangito group’s petitions actually bothered to vote in the QOL bond election.

If you don’t vote, I don’t care to hear anything you have to say. There is a reason why we vote – it is to voice our will at the ballot box. Once that vote has been taken, if you are trying to change things, then you are just as guilty of trying to trample on people’s rights as you claim City Council is.

Here is the video of some of the shenanigans.
