One by one, movie houses across El Paso have either reopened or set a date to do so. The latest theater chain to announce it will be welcoming back movie-going fans is AMC.

The company plans to reopen its two local movie houses in phases, with the AMC El Paso 16 at 9840 Gateway North going first.

The planned reopening date for the northeast location is Thursday, August 27, according to the theater website. Classic East Point 12 near Lee Trevino is scheduled to open September 3.

Because studios have only released a handful of new movies, AMC will supplement them with what they call "bring-back movies," which is how they're referring to older movies. As studios release new movies, they’ll be added to the schedule. The price for watching one of the older films will be $5.

Like Cinemark, Premiere, and its other counterparts, AMC will operate at reduced capacity to facilitate social distancing, along with increased theater cleaning and required face coverings when not eating or drinking in the auditoriums.
