Our local community is coming together to help out the families of furloughed workers as the partial government shutdown continues.

As the government shutdown continues I have been talking to more and more people who have been impacted by the shutdown. These workers and their families have been directly affected by the government shutdown and while they are going without pay that is due in part to politics, this is not what this mission is about. This community event is solely an effort that extends a helping hand to our fellow man and our community.

Vanessa Alvarado, the El Paso Chapter Leader of The Border Patrol Agent Family Network, a 501(c) (3) non-profit that supports the many families of agents released the following statement:

"As family members, we have a unique perspective of what the men and women who serve this country sacrifice on a daily basis and what their families endure. They work tirelessly to ensure our safety and deserve a network of family and community support.

In the past, BPAFN has supported surviving families after the death of an agent, financial hardships or medical illnesses that put a strain on families.

With the current government shutdown, many of our Border Patrol families are faced with hardships because they are not getting paid, yet still showing up for work. No paycheck means many families cannot make ends meet.

We would greatly appreciate any type of donation to help supplement what families need most while they wait for another paycheck.

Our non-profit tax-exempt ID and contact information has been provided below. Your support will make a difference."

Donations are being sought for the families of these furloughed workers including everyday items such as:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Baby soap
  • Diapers
  • Gas cards
  • Non-Perishable food items
  • Donors can use the Tax ID Number 82-1007076 for their records

The upcoming community event this weekend will benefit all federal employees including Border Patrol, CBP, DHS families from El Paso, Las Cruces, Sunland Park, Santa Teresa, La Union, Anthony, Vinton, Alamogordo, and Deming while supplies last.

Companies that have confirmed to help with goods and services include: Quality Fruits and Vegetable, pantries from Southern NM, Sarah Farms and Bowie Bakery.

If you are interested in making a donation you can drop off at our KISS Studios located at 4180 N. Mesa, El Paso, TX 79902.
