Actor Dolph Lundgren was in Las Cruces this past weekend scouting a notoriously haunted jail as a possible location for a film he’s making.

Ramiro Galvan, lead investigator and founder of Paranormal Research Investigations El Paso, was looking into some recent paranormal activity at the Dona Ana County Courthouse and Jail on Sunday (March 27) when he spotted the familiar face and his overly buff exterior checking the place out.

My son and I got a pleasant surprise today when invited to visit a well-known haunted location in Las Cruces. Met some folks scouting this location for a possible movie. Recognize him?

Why, yes, I do, Ramiro.

The Swedish action movie star is best known for his role in The Expendables series, as King Nereus in the Aquaman flicks, and of course, as Russian boxer Drago in Rocky IV in which he famously uttered the line, “I must break you.”

I asked Ramiro if he had Dolph say the line, but he has more restraint than I do. “Didn't talk much to him,” he responded. “Dolph was busy with his producers and director about shots in the main jail hall, backdrops and equipment that would be needed.”

The Haunted History of the Dona Ana County Courthouse

Built in 1937 and abandoned in 2008, the historic building on Amador Avenue is said to be inhabited by a shadowy figure nicknamed "Bubba," and the ghost of a lady named Mary Waters who is said to have died there in 1951.

Ramiro and the PRI crew have wandered the maze-like hallways of the famously haunted and extremely active courthouse and jail on numerous occasions dating back to 2011, and have documented all kinds of spooky activity over the years.

Shadow figures, disembodied laughter and voices, and loud menacing footsteps are among the spine-chilling captures they've made.

But Dolph ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts.

Ramiro said Dolph’s girlfriend and one of the producers got nervous after finding out just how haunted the building is, but Drago – I mean, Dolph – was unfazed.

So When Does Filming Begin?

“The movie folks haven't signed a contract yet for the location but if they do, they looking at filming there possibly within next couple of months,” according to Galvan.

There’s no word on if Lundgren will be starring, directing, or starring and directing in the movie.

And, I don’t know if it’s related to this particular movie project, but this past February he posted a photo of himself and captioned it, “Slaving away at the script of the new movie I’m directing in a couple of months. Stay tuned.”
