If you're like me, you do a lot of cooking and baking, and that means you probably have a bag or two of flour in your kitchen. I love to use Gold Medal flour because that is the flour that my grandmothers and my mom always used. I'm going to check my flour, however, because Gold Medal has issued a recall on a certain lot of flour because of a possibility that it might be contaminated with salmonella.

The good news is that so far no one has become sickened by the flour, but kudos to Gold Medal for taking the precaution of recalling the flour. If you don't know this already, here's a cooking tip - flour is raw. You have to cook it before you can eat it. That's why when you are making a sauce with flour the recipe always tells you to cook it in whatever fat you are using for a couple of minutes. You not only have to cook out the super flour-y flour taste, but you have to cook it because it is raw. That's another reason why you also shouldn't eat raw cookie dough. Eggs are the only thing in there that could make you sick.

If you have Gold Medal flour in your kitchen, this is what you need to look for:

5 lb. bag Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour
"Better if used by" date of April 20, 2020, and a UPC of 000-16000-19610-0

That is the only Gold Medal product affected by the recall. Here is the link to Gold Medal's website, and here is the link to the page you need to complete to get a replacement bag of flour.

If you don't have the bag from the flour you have in your home, it's probably better to be safe than sorry and throw it away.
