Date Set for ‘Luminarias On Scenic Drive’
On any night of the year, Scenic Drive provides El Pasoans and tourists alike with the most majestic and panoramic view of the El Paso/Juarez landscape there is. I'm talking glowing lights as far as the eye can see.
But one day a year, that picture-perfect view becomes an even more luminous wonderland.
For the last two decades, Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe has been lighting up the mountaintop road with over 4,000 luminarias, and this year, that one day will be Saturday, December 14, 2019.
The 28th Annual Luminarias on Scenic Drive is more than just tradition. This unique and totally El Paso event also serves as a fundraiser and canned food drive for area families-in-need.
So if you plan on making the trek up the mountain, please also plan on donating as many canned and/or dry goods as you can, or hit 'em up with a few dollars. Everything La Fe collects that night will be used to make sure those they serve have a happy Christmas.
What to Know Before You Go:
Scenic Drive will be open to one-way traffic during the event ( 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Dec. 14), accessible only from Richmond and Alabama in Central El Paso. Traffic will head westbound in a single lane and exit Scenic Drive at Rim Road.
The amber glow of candles inside sand-filled paper bags will guide vehicles along Scenic Drive toward a live nativity scene, Santa and Mrs. Claus, and Santa’s brother from another mother, Pancho Claus. The yule time trio and their elves will be collecting the donations.
