Coronavirus Forces El Paso Chihuahuas to Delay Start of Season
The El Paso Chihuahuas announced today (3/12) the team will delay the start of the 2020 season due to an abundance of caution over the COVID-19 outbreak.
The team's parent league, Minor League Baseball, made the decision to postpone play immediately and indefinitely “after consultation with medical professionals and our partners at Major League Baseball.” The statement added that the league would monitor developments and “resume play as soon as it is safe to do so.”
The Chihuahuas were set to open the season April 9 in Salt Lake City and host their first home game on Tuesday, April 14.
Because the situation is so fluid and changes daily, anyone who bought tickets to any home games should hold on to them and wait for the team to provide scheduling updates as it receives more information and direction from Minor League Baseball.
