Break out the chalk and your artistic skills, Chalk the Block returns to downtown El Paso this weekend.

After a challenging 2020 that forced the event's cancellation due to the global pandemic, the free family-friendly event returns live and in living color for 2021. In other words, the largest free public arts festival is back to being the in-person event you’ve come to know and love.

The colorful event will be taking over the Downtown Arts District and celebrating its 14th anniversary Saturday and Sunday, October 9-10.

About Chalk the Block

The homegrown event isn’t just about drawing on sidewalks and streets. There are interactive art installations, live dance and theatrical performances, sidewalk chalk art competition, live bands, and food trucks.

And, of course, chalk. Lots of chalk.

If you’ve never taken the kiddos, you are really missing out on a kid-friendly experience they will absolutely love. I mean, what kid doesn't like to chalk up sidewalks?

And you don't have to be a kid to draw on pavement; everyone is encouraged to flex their artistic skills and paint the town red -- and purple, and blue, and yellow, and every other color in the box of chalk.
