This Saturday and Sunday, downtown will become a living breathing canvas when the street art extravaganza returns live and in living color with lots of free family-friendly activities.

Chalk the Block isn’t just about drawing on sidewalks and streets. There are interactive art installations, live music, a sidewalk chalk art competition, a vendor marketplace, and food trucks.

And chalk. Lots of chalk.

And what kid doesn't like to chalk up sidewalks? But you don't have to be a kid to draw on the pavement; everyone is encouraged to flex their artistic skills and paint the town red -- and purple, and blue, and yellow, and every other color in the box of chalk.

Installations:

• MI CASA, YOUR CASA 2.0: Installation by Esrawe+Cadena – San Jacinto Plaza

“The installation features a series of three-dimensional red frame tiny houses where people can socialize on swings.”

• Chaotic Diffusion: Audiovisual Interactive Installation by El Pasoan David Elias Delgado – San Jacinto Plaza

“The installation will immerse you between two large projection screens, each with a visual program that responds to movement in unique ways.”

• moonGARDEN by LUCION Media – Arts Festival Plaza

The installation is composed of 5 self-inflating reinforced vinyl spheres that broadcast shadow theatres produced by laser cuts placed on rotating trays and lit by lamps.

Sensory-Friendly Hours

New this year is a sensory-friendly experience on Sunday, October 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. before the event opens to the public.
