The City of El Paso Environmental Services department announced that curbside recycling pickup service will be temporarily suspended beginning on December 1.  This change comes as a result of staffing issues with the Environmental Services department caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This does not mean that El Pasoans will not be able to recycle come December though.  Drop off recycling centers, of which there are five, will remain operational.  I wouldn’t expect to see a slight drop in your water bill though as city residents only pay a monthly charge for the grey trash bin pickup and not the blue recycling bin pickup.

Those that are wondering if this is a precursor to eventually having regular trash pickup service suspended can breathe easy as state law currently mandates that trash pickup happen at least once a week.  This current change will allow Environmental Services to focus the dwindling staff they have to continue trash pickup service and operating the city landfill.

There is currently no word as to when recycling pickup service will resume.

Citizen Collection drop off locations for those who plan to continue recycling are below.

  • 2492 Harrison
  • 1034 Pendale
  • 4501 Hondo Pass
  • 3510 Confederate3
  • 121 Atlantic
