We all know it's tough enough being a mom, but how about being a stepmom to kids whose mom is Super Mom? That is the premise of 'Stepmom', starring Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon.

Susan Sarandon plays Super Mom who always has organic snacks for her kids, perfectly folded laundry, and a to-die-for house in Connecticut. She makes sure her daughter gets to her horseback riding lessons on time, and her son is the perfect combination of precociousness and sass. Her life was perfect until her husband left her and ended up engaged to Julia Roberts hip, New York, big-time fashion photographer character.

Things between the women are tense but ease up when Sarandon's character gets terminal cancer. They figure out how to manage the kids and her impending death together, and oddly enough, without much input from the dad in the movie, Ed Harris. If there is one thing that really bugs me about this movie it is how much of an absentee person he is in Sarandon, his kids, and Robert's lives.

The movie is a real tear-jerker, and is part of the International Museum of Art's salute to moms this month. The museum is a Trost-designed treasure, and you can check out the exhibits for free either before or after the movie. The concessions are the best deal in town, so you really can't go wrong with spending Saturday afternoon at the International.
