Looking to do something different for Valentine's Day that won't break the bank? Celebrate The Holy Day of Obligation® at the Ascarate Park drive-in.

'Wait, whaa?!,' you might be asking. 'But, Mike, the drive-in across from Ascarate has been closed for decades.'

You're right. But for one night only on Valentine's Day, El Paso County Parks is bringing the tradition of drive-in movies back to the Lower Valley for a free lakeside showing of the romantic comedy 50 First Dates, drive-in style.

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, you and your boo can watch the funny and sweet Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie on "the largest inflatable screen in the city" from the comfort of your own hooptie while you listen to it on your car radio.

You can even make a non-traditional dinner and movie night out of it as a handful of food trucks will be onsite for movie snacks and food, according to a County Park press release.

Not only is this special Valentine's Day event free, the County is even going to waive the parking and walk-in fee for the evening.

No sitter? No problem, make it a family night. Valentine’s Day in Ascarate Park is a family friendly event. There will be a separate area for outdoor seating for those who would rather bring chairs and blankets and enjoy the movie alfresco.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. 50 First Dates will begin just after sundown; approximately 6:45 p.m. For more event information, visit the El Paso County Parks & Special Events Facebook.
