The Best Places To View The 2023 And 2024 Eclipses In New Mexico

Two solar eclipses are coming up and parts of New Mexico in particular will have a really good view of the first one.

On October 14, 2023, an annular eclipse will happen and certain places around the United States will have the best views of the "ring of fire" in the sky.

An annular eclipse is where the moon covers, but does not completely "black out", the sun.

If you want the best seats for Octobers' eclipse, onlyinyourstate.com suggests the cities of Farmington, Albuquerque, Roswell and Hobbs, New Mexico for it to be 90% visible.

For peeps in Carlsbad, New Mexico ... pretty close to El Paso ... it will be about 80% visible.

Moving on to 2024, another eclipse will occur and this one is the real deal.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Agency, (NASA), on April 8th, 2024:

... a total solar eclipse will cross North and Central America creating a path of totality. During a total solar eclipse, the Moon completely blocks the Sun while it passes between the Sun and Earth. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk and those standing in the path of totality may see the Sun’s outer atmosphere (the corona) if weather permits.

The eclipse will blackout everything between Texas and Maine while all 48 states will experience at least a partial eclipse.

Thankfully, NASA gave us enough of a heads up to plan road trips accordingly.

Looks like it's going to be Carlsbad for me in October. Not sure about April, 2024 yet.
