Avatar Star Stephen Lang Kicks Off 2022 El Paso Film Festival

Actor Stephen Lang kicks off the 5th Annual Film Festival at the Philanthropy Theatre inside the Plaza Theatre downtown.

Stephan Lang has starred in over one hundred theatrical performances, tv shows, and films, including his most famous roles in Tombstone, Mortal Engines, Don't Breathe, and Avatar. This year the Hollywood star was the special guest for day one of the El Paso Film Festival, previewing his new film, Old Man.

Local filmmaker Lucky McKee directed the film and was joined on stage by Lang and the rest of the film cast, including Marc Senter, Liana Wright-Mark, and writer Joel Veach.

Stephen Lang will be returning to the highly anticipated Avatar blockbuster sequel The Way of Water, but before then has immersed himself in the psychological thriller Old Man which was filmed during the pandemic about a lost hiker who stumbles upon an erratic old man living in the woods, which eventually leads to a terrifying secret.

After the screening at the Philanthropy Theatre, Lang shared a few words about the making of the film and then joined the rest of the cast and attendees at a VIP reception at the Paso Del Norte Hotel.

Another standout film to watch that has ties to The Sun City (partly filmed in El Paso) is the film El Otro Tom (The Other Tom), which will be screened on Saturday, October 15.

One more film fest highlight is the short Ep. 00: Pilot, winners of the 48 El Film Project (El Paso Chapter). The dark comedy takes the viewer into the world of modern-day serial killers in this short film.
