El Paso is loaded with talent, especially when it comes to filmmaking & creating tv shows. We've seen local films win at the Cannes Film Festival, locally produced shows appear on national television, and we've seen local producers create number one movies on Netflix.

The latest in award winning El Pasoans come from the local studio, In Cadence Films: the creation of  directors & filmmakers Alfonso Loya & Tony Marquez.

The studios has been responsible for creating local commercials, music videos & local shows including Entre Fronteras, a show that focuses on different groups of people & their stories/struggles through immigration.

As Alfonso explains: "One is about a group of immigrants from South America that leave everything behind to embark on a journey seeking a better life. Another one is about a man who has been living in the US for more than a decade and gets deported, he now musts cross the desert to get back to his family".

It was announced this week their show, Entre Fronteras, recently won the "Grand Jury Award" at the New York International Film Awards. They received the award back in November 2022, and you can find their name on the winners on the official NYIFA website. In Cadence Films made the post officially on their Instagram page this week.

When I asked Alfonso how he felt on winning the award, he was excited:

"We submitted the pilot to different film festivals around the US and Mexico. The New York International Film Awards was the first one where we got accepted and to our surprise we took home the 'Grand Jury Award'. We don't know if more filmmakers from El Paso participated in the festival but we feel very proud and honored to represent El Paso in a festival as important as this one."

I know making a show is hard work, so congrats to Alfonso, Tony, the whole In Cadence Films crew, and everyone who worked on Entre Fronteras for winning the gold!

You can catch Entre Fronteras on Canela TV, and there will be a screening at the Las Cruces Film Festival in April.
