Another El Paso Area Church Is Vandalized
Earlier this month, a woman with possible mental health issues was praying at St. Raphael Church on the city's east side when witnesses say she suddenly began throwing candles, oil, and holy water. The unidentified woman also broke a Sacred Heart statue. She was taken into custody and sent to University Medical Center for evaluation. This weekend, another disturbing incident happened at a local Catholic church, but this time, the damage done seemed to be more pre-meditated.
The walls of St. Mark's Catholic Church on Pebble Hills Blvd. were graffitied over the weekend. El Paso Catholic Diocese officials say the spray-painted messages were done sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The phrase "good & bad comes from God; damn God," was seen on some walls.
The graffiti was cleaned off by Monday morning, and Diocese spokeswoman, Elizabeth O'Hara, said they do believe the vandalism was a random act. The Diocese did file a report with El Paso Police.
