5 Thousand Vanity Plates were Denied by Texas in 2022

F@RT. NF*GVN. TOESUKR.  What do all these have in common? Someone in Texas wanted them as their license plate number in 2022…and Texas said, “Nope”.

“Vanity Plates” have been around for a lot longer than you probably realize. The first vanity or customized, license plates were allowed in Pennsylvania all the way back in 1931!  It makes you wonder what kind of vanity plates were popular over 90 years ago. FL4PPR-GRLLL? Or, maybe, H00VR-SUX?

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has a few hard rules about what you can have as your LP number. For starters, no references to drugs or other illegal acts. So, STONED1, COKANE, and WEED420 were all denied in 2022.

It’s not just referenced to illegal activity, though. Anything the TDMV deems as vulgar or sexual can be rejected. Some of the 2022 requests that fell into this category are IM PSSD, SGR DADI, and N4KD.  That goes for requests that are not quite vulgar but just kind of…flirty?  THICCC, STDMFN, and DADBAWD all were nixed in the past year.

They also seem to have a “no politics” policy which denied requests such as F BDN, 4MAGA, and JAN-6TH.

They’ll turn down anything that refers to race or ethnicity, even if it isn’t derogatory. One Texan who wanted “REDDNEK” as his or her plate was told it was a no-go.

There are several that seem fairly innocuous that was denied. Here are some of those, along with my guess as to what innocent message the person wanted to send:

GOOB3R - Probably someone who really, really loves peanuts

GOT BUNS - A baker maybe…or someone who drives a bread delivery truck?

MRCRAZY - A psychiatrist trying to drum up business

SADGRL - She was already sad, DMV! You probably just made it worse by denying her vanity plate.

BLU BLLS - This could be somebody who collects billiard balls but only the # 2s, right?

PSYC4T - Obviously, a cat-lover. Joanna would get this one. If she drove.

There is an upcharge for vanity plates that could range anywhere from $50 to $195 PER YEAR. The DMV has the final call and, if they deny you, you can’t fight them on it. On the bright side, they’ll either return your money or let you submit another request.
