The award-winning magazine recently rolled through town to get a small taste of three of El Paso's most popular eateries to showcase in their latest edition.
Gussie's Tamales & Bakery
Located in Central El Paso, Gussie's is one of the favored spots in town to score tempting tamales and pan dulce on any given day, especially during fall holidays such as Christmas.
L&J Cafe
Apart from being a celebrity hot spot, the nearly 100-year-old 'restaurant by the cemetery,' L&J Cafe, was also featured thanks to its chopped steak burritos and fluffy flour tortillas.
ELEMI
Meanwhile, ELEMI which keeps racking up the accolades, made the magazine's list and scored the coveted Plate Magazine cover for its made-from-scratch blue corn maize tortillas imported from Jocotitlán and Tlaxcala, Mexico.
It's no secret that borderland is home to some of the best Mexican food in the Southwest. Over the years, many local eateries have been attracting chefs such as Padma Lakshmi and Patti Jinich and entities like The Food Network and Texas Monthly, to name but a few.
As the flavors of Mexican cuisine expand across the nation, it's a proud moment to see some of El Paso's favorite eateries get recognized while representing the vast flavors and essence of El Paso's incredible cuisines.
