Tamal season is upon us, finally! While my mom is waiting until Christmas Eve for us to make tamales, elsewhere in the borderland the tamales are flowing. From famous restaurants to the lady at the Food King parking lot, the time has come and I am looking to get my tamal fix!

Tamales are delicious and they are constantly evolving, you have a different variety to choose from. You have regular red tamales with corn husks, sometimes they're wrapped in banana leaves, sweet tamales and even hot Cheeto tamales.

Now, I'm usually not one to judge, but I recently found out that some people like their tamales with ketchup and I. WAS. SHOOKETH! I'm all for weird food combinations, this, though, is taking it too far. Not to be a Judgy McJudgerson, I decided to try it. My reasoning was: I like ketchup and I like tamales separately, maybe it's not so bad. Spoiler alert: IT'S AWFUL!

Apparently, it's a south Texas thing, because reading these comments, they really love ketchup on their tamales down there! I get it, everyone has different tastes, ketchup and tamales is not for everyone, it's an acquired taste that unfortunately for me, my palate has not acquired.

If ketchup on tamales is also not for you, but you also feel like you need a little something to accompany them, let me help you out there!

Depending on the tamales you have, red salsa and green salsa are always a good option. It doesn't matter if red chile or green chile is your preference, both are good to go on top of tamales.

For the third acceptable sauce, the only way to go is CHILE CON QUESO!

Chile con queso on top of tamales is the best way to enjoy them!

No hate to people who like ketchup on their tamales (WTF, though?) but these three sauces are way better. But, of course, we all know that tamales are best accompanied with the people you love.
