The dates for the 2017 - 2019 Sun Bowl games have been set.

Although this year’s 84th Hyundai Sun Bowl will be played on December 29, going forward the game will return to its decades-long tradition of a New Year’s Eve game day.

Hyundai Sun Bowl Executive Director Bernie Olivas told ABC7 the 2018 and 2019 games were originally going to be Saturday games but that they had to be moved to accommodate the College Football Playoffs. The 2018 game will instead be on a Monday (Dec. 31), while the 2019 game has been moved to a Tuesday (Dec. 31).

As much as I'd like for them to all be on a Saturday, as long as they're as thrilling as this past Sun Bowl I'm okay with the game falling on a week day.

Not only was it super-exciting watching Stanford and North Carolina fight it out to the final seconds, but having former Secretary of State and Stanford provost Condoleezza Rice walking the sideline, and Country music royalty Faith Hill and Tim McGraw in the stands was a real kick, too.

The Sun Bowl is the second longest-running bowl game in college football history, dating back to 1935. The game typically matches the Pacific-12 Conference versus the Atlantic Coast Conference.
