The Food Drive helps to replenish depleted shelves at agencies and organizations that serve people in need.

The 14th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Canned Food Drive will be held starting today through Monday, January 20th 2014.  The public is asked to donate canned and non-perishable food donations at several locations throughout the city.

The food collected will be sorted and distributed to organizations that serve the less fortunate on Monday, January 20, 2014 (MLK Day).

The first MLK Food Drive Kickoff ceremonial donation of canned goods with Representative Robinson takes place at the Walmart Supercenter at 5631 Dyer St. beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The food collected will be sorted and distributed to organizations that serve the less fortunate including:

  • The Center Against Family Violence
  • La Fe Montana Vista Community & Resource Center
  • The El Paso Rescue Mission
  • The Opportunity Center for the Homeless
  • The Salvation Army and others
  • La Posada Home
  • El Paso Villa Maria
  • Reynolds Home

The Public can donate at the following locations:

  • Big 8 Food Stores
  • City Hall
  • One Stop Shop
  • County Courthouse
  • El Paso Juvenile Justice Center
  • Public Libraries
  • Sheriff’s Department Facilities
  • Wal-Mart Stores
  • Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets

Since its inception, the MLK Canned Food Drive has collected an estimated 220 tons of food. For more information please call 543-5468.
