By now, most El Pasoans have heard about Khalid.
The critically acclaimed R&B singer may not have been born and raised here, but El Paso is where he's said he was "born creatively" two years ago and so El Paso is the place he reps and the place he calls home.
To honor one of the year's most talked about new artists who went from Americas High grad to a 5-time Grammy nominee in just one short year, here are 10 things about El Paso's music phenom you might not have known.
Khalid Donnel Robinson, born February 11, 1998.
He was elected prom king and voted "Most Likely to go Platinum" his senior year at Americas High School.
His father was killed by a drunk driver when he was a child
His mother Linda Wolfe was a singer, but gave up chasing her dream of a career in music to join the army so she could have a stable job and raise Khalid as a single mother.
He wrote ‘Location’ to try and impress a girl. That relationship didn't go anywhere and they don’t talk anymore.
His love for music and poetry had Khalid seriously thinking about a career as an English teacher or a music teacher before "Location" blew up and sent his life in a different direction.
The Fleetwood Mac song ‘Dreams’ is “hands down” one of his all-time favorites.
He loves him the doggy kisses. Just ask his rescue dog, Roxy.
