Things El Pasoans Can Buy For Way Less Than Expensive Eggs

The price of eggs is getting crazy these days as they, on average, are now nearly 50% higher than they were a year ago.

I'm not EGG-xaggerating, egg prices are have gone over the coop. In January of 2021, we were paying .94 cents a dozen on average and in January of 2022, it was $1.50 per dozen. (Axios)

In January, 2023, we're now up to an average of $3.30 per dozen.

On the upside, some experts say we can look forward to a drop in egg prices but, for now, here are 10 things that cost less than 18 eggs. The Walmart website currently charges almost $9.00 for 18 eggs so, that's the benchmark here.

Gas. Not so long ago, it was gas prices that were killing us. Today 3 gallons of gas are cheaper than the aforementioned Walmart 18 pack. ($8.46 for 3 gallons at $2.82 per gallon - Gasbuddy/Sam's Club.)

Beer. If you know anything at all about me, you know where I stand with Coors Light. Total Wine has 6 frosty silver bullets for $6.99. Way less than eggs and way more likely to find their way into my shopping cart.

Pants. You can buy, (almost), 2 pair of pants for the cost of that 18 pack of eggs. Fleece lined and everything.

Chicken. A whole chicken will only set you back $7.37 at Walmart. Buying eggs to batter it in may be too much though.

Flashdrives. 16GB of memory in the palm of your hand, cleverly disguised as a little bear ... or something ..., for way less than that $9.00 carton of huevos.

Tequila. One of my favorite brands, Altos, comes in at about half the 18 eggs price. $4.89 for 50ml. Eggs, natural and good. Cactus, natural and better. And cheaper.

Angus, Sirloin Steak. Walmart wants $9.91 for about a pound. Double that, ($18.91), to have steak AND eggs. Steak and tequila, ($13.89) is cheaper ... just sayin'.

Hopefully, things settle and prices get back to normal. I have a sweet tooth and, egg - spensive eggs means egg - spensive cakes.
