Egg prices have been increasing lately and for many families, that means that they may have to skip the confetti egg cracking fun until next year. However, some people are getting creative with what they’re using for easter fun this year.

The New York Times is claiming that we’ve got a new Easter twist that might just be weird enough to work: dyeing potatoes instead of eggs. Yes, potatoes.
This isn’t totally new, because back In 2023, the marketing geniuses at Potatoes USA tried pushing this idea when grocery bills started looking like rent payments.
Even PETA jumped in, suggesting the White House swap eggs for spuds at its annual Easter Egg Roll.

But here’s the wild part: people are actually doing it now
Social media has been flooded with DIY videos showing how to dye or paint potatoes, and it’s starting to feel less like a joke and more like a why-not moment. After all, potatoes are cheaper, sturdier, and let’s be honest—have you ever tried to crack open a raw egg? Messy.
