10 Of The Best Winter Soups & Where To Find Them In El Paso

Warm-up with any one of these hearty soups from some of my favorite spots around El Paso.  

The perfect meal does exist in the form of a savory, sometimes silky, or chunky fresh soup – I'm talking about the real deal – where the ingredients are as fresh as can be, and once they run out, they won't make another batch until the next day. 

From Clam Chowder to Ramen, you'll find that these delicious soups are not only comforting but will keep you full and warm on any chilly night.

Caldo de Albóndigas 

L&J Cafe - The old place by the graveyard has one of the best Albondiga (meatball) soups around. Spruce it up by squeezing some lime and add Chile to your preference, and you are good to go.

Pho 

Pho Tre Bien hands down serve up the best Pho in town. For decades, the family-owned restaurant has been serving authentic dishes thanks to its consistent and flavorful recipes.

French Onion Soup  

I'm a sucker for good French Onion Soup, and at Entrecôte & Co., they serve up the best classic version with Gruyére cheese with a fantastic depth of flavor. Pair it up with a salad, and you're eating light and fancy altogether.  

Ramen

Do your tastebuds a favor and hit up El Charlatan for a bowl of their seriously mind-blowing Ramen made with fresh local ingredients available with pork belly, fried chicken, or vegan style.  

Caldo de Res 

This nutritious soup is a staple in every Mexican household, and ideally, a good Caldo de Res should have a nice balance between meat and vegetables and not greasy. For the last few years, La Chimenea has been my go-to for Caldo de Res – it's so good, you'll be going back for seconds.

Clam Chowder  

Pelican's Steak & Seafood serves up the freshest clam chowder in town. This savory and creamy soup is made daily from scratch and tastes so much better when eaten out of their bread bowls.

Tomato Bisque Soup 

A good tomato bisque should be velvety and smooth with just a tad of sweetness, and La Madeleine French Bakery & Café serves it up hot and delicious every time. Pair it up with a homemade grilled cheese sandwich, and you're good to go!  

Lentil Soup 

Como's Italian Restaurant has been making their hearty lentil soup for years, and it's my no-fail go-to favorite lunch pick for a robust cup of soup. 

Lobster Bisque 

Magic Bistro makes an excellent Lobster Bisque from scratch; pair it up with a slice of quiche, and you'll be going back for more.  

Chicken Tortilla Soup / Aztec Soup 

Carnitas Queretaro makes a great chicken tortilla soup with a tomato base chipotle, including shredded chicken, avocado, tortilla strips, and cheese. Yum!
