Why Do Women Post Ugly Photos of Their Friends on Facebook?
Maybe that old stereotype about ladies being catty to each other is right after all — what else would explain a recent survey that found 25 percent of women have intentionally posted unflattering photos of their female friends to Facebook?
The startling discovery was made after the photo gift website MyMemory surveyed 1,500 adult women, with most of those who’d posted such photos saying they did so after having a spat with the friend in question.
Another third said the act was one of retribution after someone did the same thing to them.
You’d think being the victim of such shenanigans would make the ladies more sympathetic to the embarrassment of having an unflattering picture go public, but apparently not. Fully a fifth said that when they’d been asked to delete an ugly photo, they’d refused to do so — even though two-thirds of those polled said they’d be “angry” at a friend who uploaded an unflattering image of them.
Untagging yourself in such photos will take your name off of them, but if the photos don’t violate Facebook guidelines, there’s little else you can do — except, apparently, fight fire with fire.
